Officials with the Standardbred Owners Association of New York have issued an important reminder to horsepeople, trainers, veterinarians and owners that race in the state. Medication rules that were initially supposed to be implemented last year will now be in place effective this Friday (April 1).

On Monday, March 28, the SOANY forwarded a January 2015 notice from the New York State Gaming Commission. The notice outlines new rules for the administration of medications, the logging of medications, medication time-period restrictions, and medication threshold levels.

The January 2015 notice begins by explaining that the NYSGC ‘has adopted 19 national drug thresholds.’

Specifically, the January 2015 notice directly references Methylprednisolone (e.g., Depo-Medrol), Corticosteroids and Flunixin (e.g., Banamine), equine steroid administration logs, and restricted time periods.
