The proposed May 1, 2026 implementation date of the five and five per cent automatic allocation policy for licensed trainers and licensed drivers in the Maritime region is on pause according to the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission (MPHRC) due to concerns raised by the Commission's partners and participants.
"The Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission is committed to maintaining strong relationships and open communication with all stakeholders in the industry," said the MPHRC in a release on Friday, March 27. "As a result, consultations will be conducted with these groups to ensure all perspectives are considered."
A 90-day consultation period will begin on May 1, 2026. The Commission will accept written submissions and host in-person sessions with partners within the industry. Further steps regarding this implementation will be determined following these discussions.
