Maurice Brooks Passes

It has been announced that Standardbred owner/horseman Maurice William Brooks passed away at West Oak Village Long Term Care Facility in Oakville, Ont. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the age of 85.

Predeceased by his wife Margaret, loved father to Marilyn, John (Nancy), Maurice Jr. (Diane), Jeff (Sue). Dear brother of June Butler (John) and Lawrence (Sue). Grandfather to Jaclyn, Scott, Ryan, Colin, Joel, Taylor, Hailey and Laura. Great grandfather to Violet, Gabriella, Jordan, Hazel and Rylee. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Maurice, who was born in Hanham, Bristol, England on October, 26, 1933, served in the British Army, stationed in Malta, where he met and married his wife Margaret. Maurice and Margaret immigrated to Canada with their children in 1960. It was here that he pursued his lifelong passion with horses where he became actively involved in the harness racing industry as an owner, trainer and driver.

There will be a celebration of life at Adams Funeral Home (445 St. Vincent Street Barrie,) on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada in memory of Maurice Brooks Senior are welcomed. Messages of condolence may be forwarded through adamsfuneralhome.ca.
