Monticello Cancels Third Straight Card

Monticello Raceway has announced that it has been forced to cancel its third consecutive card of live racing. Like the two previous, the Wednesday, March 11 program

has been cancelled due to track conditions.

A Monticello release sent out this morning states that the current track conditions at Monticello is a result of a very cold winter which saw the frost permeate deep into the ground. The release goes on to say that with the recent unseasonably warm weather, the earth is thawing and there is little that can be done to render the racetrack surface constant.

“We are, and I know everyone else is, frustrated by what’s happening here in the mountains, but safety of the drivers and their horses is of the utmost importance,” said Shawn Wiles, the track's assistant general manager.

“Weather permitting we will resume racing on Thursday, March 11 with first post at 1:10 p.m.”
