Mario Blanchette Passes

Trot Insider has learned that longtime Standardbred horseman Mario Blanchette passed away at the CIUSSS MCQ-CHAUR in Trois-Rivières on Tuesday, February 6 at the age of 60.

Blanchette started working in at Ferme Mathers in 1980 and then went on to work for trainers such as Daniel Dube, Richard Moreau while in Quebec. He would go on to work for Alain Gelinas and the McTrade Stable while in Florida. By the time 2017 rolled around, Blanchette was working for Stephane Bouchard in New York State.

Predeceased by his late father, Jacques, and sister, Lise (François St-Onge), Mario is survived by his mother, Pauline Jacob; sisters, Francine (Jean-René Bouvette), Johanne, Colette (Alain Mercier) and Danielle; brothers, Pierre (Claire Laroche) and Michel (Carole Brunelle); his godchild, Catherine St-Onge Jensen; as well as many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

The family will welcome relatives and friends at L. G. Gaudet Funeral Home Inc. 2415 boul. Bécancour, Bécancour sector Gentilly G9H 3V7 on Saturday, February 10. The reception will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The funeral will be held at the Gentilly Church at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment at the same place.

The family would like to extend its thanks to to Dr. Jocelyn Hébert. Expressions of sympathy can be reflected in the form of donations to the St-Vincent-de-Paul Society of Trois-Rivières.
