Calvin LaQuan Harris Passes

Standardbred horseman Calvin LaQuan Harris passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the age of 25.

Born on May 9, 1994, Harris resided in Forest, Miss. Growing up with a love of horses, he learned the sport of harness racing from his uncle, Chad Parker.

Harris started his career by grooming for various stables and then going on to earn his trainer/driver license. Racing at tracks such as Thunder Ridge, Bluegrass Downs, and the Red Mile, Harris also participated in multiple fair circuits — Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Recently, Harris had been working as a groom for Jamie Macomber at Hoosier Park in Anderson, Ind.

Harris is survived by his mother, Melissa Lefore; father, Calvin; siblings, Cornelius, Courtney, Kei’Erika, Kanosha and JaMyia; and young son, Kharson.

A Celebration of Life ceremony has been scheduled for Saturday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m. (CST) at TrueLight M.B. Church, 1120 School Street, Walnut Grove, MS 39189.
