Rideau Carleton Raceway’s 2020 meet of live racing is scheduled to get underway this coming Sunday (Feb. 9) and it has been announced that there is a possibility of a new hitching fee for also-rans over the course of the first eight cards of the meet.
According to Rideau Carleton Raceway management and the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association, horses finishing sixth or worse over the course of the first eight programs of the meet would be paid $150 if the hitching fee does in fact come into effect.
Officials with Rideau Carleton Raceway would like to clarify that the hitching fee is still pending AGCO approval.
The payment will be made to the owner(s) of the horse and the money will be added to the horse's earnings.
The NCRHHA and management with Rideau Carleton Raceway are welcoming feedback on this initiative.
