Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman Ivan Johnson of Bailiboro, Ont. passed away this past weekend at the age of 79.
Ivan's son, Mark, races out of the same area and regularly enters stock to compete at nearby Kawartha Downs.
Ivan's granddaughter, Samara, drives and trains racehorses in the region as well.

At the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Sunday February 3, 2013 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of 60 years to Lorene (nee Timlin). Loving father of Rick (Susan), Randy (Julie), Doug, Mark (Julie), Denise (Mike) and the late Michael. Cherished grandfather of Chris (Cathy), Casey, Dana (Nathan), Samara (Larry), Nicole (Scott), Cody, Auston, the late Russell and great grandfather of Graiden and Nathan. Dear brother of Ken (Jocelyn). Ivan will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral Service to Celebrate Ivan's Life will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Highland Park Funeral Centre Chapel. Reverend John Sloan officiating. Interment to follow at Rosemount Memorial Gardens.
