The connections of retired Ontario stakes winner Armbro Warranty have reported the pacing stallion passed away on Feb. 20, 2024 at the age of 25.
Owned by Petrina Lawrence since he was a yearling, Armbro Warranty was a $17,000 purchase from the 2000 Forest City Sale and went on to earn 49 wins, 38 seconds and 33 thirds from 251 starts while banking $722,295 during his racing career. The son of Village Jiffy out of the Slapstick mare Vivian Lobell last raced in 2010 and spent his retirement years at Lawrence's farm in Rodney, Ont., breeding a few mares over the years and establishing a patriarchal presence at the farm.
Armbro Warranty was trained for the majority of his starts by former co-owner Fred Logan, Alan Logan and later Russell Gowan and Charles Rohde Jr.
The Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) graduate took his mark of 1:50.3 at Woodbine Racetrack in a Gold elimination as a three-year-old in 2002, setting what was then an all-time OSS record. In addition to multiple OSS victories, Lawrence counts winning the Flamboro Downs Breeders Stakes and competing in the 2003 Gold Cup & Saucer among the highlights of her belover pacer's career. Armbro Warranty later competed in the Open and Preferred ranks at racetracks across the province until his retirement.
"He was just a really good, sweet horse with a huge personality. He was really a pleasure to be around," said Lawrence. "He's really going to be missed."
