Stakes-winning millionaire trotter Y Chance It passed away peacefully at the age of 26.
Y Chance It resided for many years in retirement with companionship at the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS), which reported his passing on Feb. 15, 2025 in a social media post.
The gelded son of Yentls Image-Fannies Biggal Two was retired from racing by trainer Ron O'Neill after making his last start in June 2008 and later joined OSAS in 2019 with his longtime paddock buddy Railroad Ron.
A multiple Ontario Sires Stakes winner as a youngster, Y Chance It went on to sweep the Don Mills Trotting Series as a four-year-old and won back-to-back Horsemen's Trotting Series titles the following years.
The opening leg of the 2004 Horsemen's Trot was an impressive example of his talents when he made up a 17-length deficit after a break in stride at the start to prevail.
During his four-year-old campaign, he set a track record at Dover Downs winning a division of the Classic Series in 1:53.4. A strong contender among the top classes on the Woodbine Entertainment circuit as an older trotter, he took his lifetime mark of 1:52.4 at age seven against Preferred rivals on a cold December evening at Woodbine Racetrack.
Y Chance It won a total of 43 races with 30 other top three finishes from 134 starts while earning $1,081,364 for O'Neill and co-owners Paul Larrabee and Lynda Franklin.
