Morris Trabert, 95, of Sigourney, passed away on February 9 at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

Morris Clair Trabert was born July 30, 1922, in Primrose, the son of Lawrence and Ada Lauer Trabert. He grew up in Primrose, graduating there from eighth grade.

Trabert worked as a general labourer and carpenter in his adult life, moving to Douds in the early 1950s. He began raising horses about that time and continued to train and race horses most of his life.

He moved to What Cheer in the early 1960s, where he lived at the Keokuk County Fairgrounds and raced harness horses for many years.

He loved all things baseball and going to auctions looking for collectibles. He also loved to visit with friends and had plenty of jokes to share with them.

In December 2012, Trabert moved to Delta Senior Housing. He moved to Manor House Care Center in April 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Erma DeRosear. He is survived by two nephews, Dennis (Peggy) DeRosear and Douglas (Connie) DeRosear, and two close friends, Dave and Lila Prell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keokuk County Fair Board (http://keokukcountyfair.com/).
