The family of Sam McKee has provided another progress report on the Hall of Famer after he suffered a serious stroke earlier this month.
"Sam is moving forward with his race to recovery! He settled in to a wonderful rehab facility this week and it's going to keep him very busy," said his family in a statement posted on the GoFundMe page established to assist with medical costs. "The staff is incredible and he will have daily sessions with Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists. They had him walking back to his room yesterday with heavy assistance, but it was such a joy to see him upright!
"We were able to put his glasses on for the first time since surgery and he was thrilled to say the least. He is looking better every day, but it's going to be a long road ahead. We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love and support that continues to be sent our way and we know he will work hard not only for us but for each and every one of you, too."
As of Saturday morning (February 18), the GoFundMe page has raised more than $147,000 in donations to aid McKee in his recovery.
