The Anniversary Committee of the PEI Colt Stakes is looking for sponsors to support the various activities and events that are to be part of this year's 75th anniversary

.

Sponsor kits will be available this week from the committee members or by sending a request to the PEI Colt Stakes or calling 902-368-2340.

The committee will meet Wednesday, February 19, at the Farm Centre in Charlottetown to finalize the schedule and distribute the sponsor kits. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. All committee members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Among the activities planned is a stallion fee auction and silent auction of merchandise to be held in conjunction with a dinner to take place in Summerside on May 15, the date of the first-ever Colt Stakes meeting in 1934.

Breeding farms in the Maritimes and Ontario have been sent requests to participate by donating stallion breedings. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the Anniversary's matinee events for young drivers; the Matinee racetrack development program, which sponsors day camps at the matinee tracks for children; and the HYPE (Healthy Youth Potential Explored) program, an equine awareness program for youth that are part of a crime prevention program through the John Howard Society. They are involved with a local riding stable that uses retired standardbreds for recreation and rehabilitative riding.
