Murray Fife Passes

Longtime horseman W. Murray ‘Moe’ Fife passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on February 13, 2011 in his 83rd year

Murray played hockey as a youth and pursued his hockey career playing Junior A with the Barrie Flyers in 1945. He then travelled to Europe to play for another 13 years returning in 1962 to the family farm. His love for the game continued as he coached and refereed minor hockey.

After hockey, he made his way to the world of harness racing. Under the Fifehill Farms stable name, Murray campaigned such notable horses Fifehill Streaker, Fifehill Bambi and Fifehill Snuffi.

Beloved partner of Jeanne Thorne. Survived by Mavis and Nick (Sandy). Loving grandfather of Shannon & Nichelle Fife and Justin Olan. Moe will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will take place at the Brett Funeral Chapel in Hastings, Ont. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 1-3 pm. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Must agree with Mr. C. Visited with Murray last year at K.D. and enjoyed talking about the "good ole days" with him. Shared a few stories as best we could remember.

What a GREAT guy Moe was. Tough as nails and loved hockey and horses. Was a fixture in Kawartha Downs grandstand and enjoyed every minute there. We had many great chats.
