Longtime harness racing industry participant Brent Davies of Perth Township passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 10, 2022 in his 77th year.
Brent was an accomplished and respected trainer / driver. Starting his early career in Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C then moving onto California and Arizona before heading to Ontario in 1966 where he quickly made a name for himself on the Ontario Jockey Club Circuit as a much sought-after catch driver.
Some of his most memorable horses were Maple Lane Strike, Garma Hooligan, Arnies Suwannee and Champ Tass. Winner of numerous driving titles over his years including the title of Slowest Mile on record at a whopping 2:08.3 with Columbia Brooks at The Meadowlands. His successful career included 1,922 driving wins and more than $5.8 million in purse earnings. After retiring from racing Brent became a judge for the Ontario Racing Commission.
Cherished father of November, Paul, Cody, Megan, Lee, Amy and the late January and Beau. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren. Dear brother of Janie and Robin, lovingly remembered and missed by his nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws. Predeceased by parents Donald and Alice, and siblings Brian, Donnette, Kerry and Kent.
To honour Brent’s wishes cremation has taken place.

I will always remember the good old racing days at Greenwood, one of the other old-timers he had was one of my favourites Peter Way Sultan, when Brent got him in high gear from the back he would just storm home remember like it was yesterday. Wish Greenwood was still around, great memories. Sincere condolences, to all the family. Rest in peace Brent.

Very Quiet "great" driver.
I remember him picking my horse out of a list of 5 horses that he could have driven in a particular race. My horse was at best 3rd best in the race. He finished 2nd, and I asked him why he chose my horse over the other 4. He told me that he'd driven the other 4 several times and he was still waiting for his first payment for doing so.
Very quiet, a real gentleman that did me a world of good over the years.

So sorry to hear of Brent's passing. A great guy and all around horseman. Brent always ran a first class outfit. From Maple Lanes Strike to Arnies Suwannee who excelled under Brent's care. Probably one of the first drivers at making speed. R.I.P Brent.
