Gertrude Lamontagne Passes

Trot Insider has learned that after a lengthy illness, Standardbred horse owner Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Lamontagne, 85, of Holland, Manitoba passed away with her family by her side on January 22.

She leaves to mourn her devoted husband of 62 years, Albert; children, Ron (Suzanne), Roger, Linda Fontaine (Rolly) and Diane Payette (Charlie); 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Laurel Hamelin and Joe Shesternick; and sister, Hilda Trudeau. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Cecilia Hamelin, and sister, Leonie St. Laurent.

Gertie graduated from Misericordia School of Nursing in 1950 and spent a great portion of her career at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency until her retirement in 1989. After retirement, Gertie and Albert spent their time doing what they loved – racing harness horses across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Treherne Hospital for their care and kindness over the last couple of years. Cremation has taken place.

A funeral service will take place on February 17 at 11 a.m. at St Bernadette Parish 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg.
