On Thursday, December 8, Horse Racing Alberta announced the appointment of Rick LeLacheur as Chairman of the Board for a term of three years
.
LeLacheur comes to HRA with extensive business experience and community involvement. He brings to the industry many years of senior management experience in economic development, and tourism/sports management.
From 2003 until the present he has served as the President, CEO and COO of the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club. During his tenure with the Eskimos, LeLacheur was very involved in the enhancement of the Eskimo stabilization fund, the new building additions at Commonwealth Stadium, and served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Football league.
Other business ventures for LeLacheur include the managing Director of the 2002 Grey Cup, President and CEO Edmonton 2001 World Championships in Athletics, President and CEO Economic Development Edmonton, and extensive Board of Director experience with Telus Corporation, Prairie Land Corporation, WCB Alberta and Travel Alberta.
LeLacheur was born and raised in the horse racing and breeding industry of Alberta. His father, Jim LeLacheur, was a prominent partner in Western Standardbred Farms, sat on the board of the Canadian Trotting Association, and served on the Alberta Racing Commission for a number of years.
Horse Racing Alberta is a private, not-for-profit organization mandated to govern, direct, control, regulate, market and promote the Alberta Horse Racing and Breeding Industry.
