Ontario Racing Commission chair Rod Seiling today announced that John W. Macdonald, Q.C. of Toronto has been appointed by the government of Ontario

as a member of the ORC for a period of two years, effective December 2, 2009.

Macdonald is a lawyer with experience in general practice, primarily of a corporate and commercial nature including clients that race, breed and sell horses. He was called to the bar in 1962 and awarded the distinction of a Queen’s Counsel in 1979.

Macdonald began his career with a major law firm in Toronto, and after 10 years of service went on to establish and be a member of his own partnership. He is still active in his current law firm partnership – Macdonald, Porter, Drees – which was established in 1996.

“I’m very pleased to have a person with John’s experience as a commissioner,” said Seiling. “He has had a distinguished legal career. In particular, his first-hand knowledge of horse racing and his understanding of the breeding and selling of horses will add considerable depth and knowledge to the ORC.”
