Commission Issues Rulings

On Thursday, December 4, the Ontario Racing Commission released the results of its recent rulings in regard to licencees Dan Creighton and James Ritchie.

In regard to Creighton, the ORC ruled that the application for a Proposed Order against the licensee was granted.

The ORC’s notice of decision states that the panel found that the licensee participated in racing while his licence was under suspension, in violation of Rule 6.10.01 of the Rules of Standardbred Racing.

The following penalties were imposed:

The Suspension

  • the suspension is a full suspension;

  • the suspension is for nine months and five days;

  • the suspension includes the time already served under suspension since March 25, 2014;

  • the suspension will end on December 29, 2014;

  • the licensee is eligible to apply for reinstatement on or after December 30, 2014.

The Fine

  • the fine is $5,000 (CAN).

In regard to Ritchie, the ORC panel that heard the appeal upheld the ruling of the judges for 15 days full suspension and a fine of $1,000. To read the panel’s oral reasons for decision, click here.
