Sophomore pacer Deuces Lucky One was put down after suffering an injury during Sunday's card of racing at Flamboro Downs.
The three-year-old son of Armbro Deuce fractured his left hind leg while at the three-eighths point of the mile, and was promptly pulled up by driver Scott Young. Trainer-owner Paul Smith credited Young for keeping the horse composed and out of the way of the other horses during the incident.
Deuces Lucky One was a five-time winner in his two seasons of racing. He took his lifetime mark of 1:57.2 this summer at Hiawatha Horse Park.
"He was a nice little horse, we're saddened we lost him," Smith told Trot Insider. "He raced great for us, I think he only missed a handful of cheques in all his lifetime starts."
