The Raceway at Western Fair District will exit 2019 the same way it entered ... by racing. The half-mile oval will offer 10 dashes Tuesday evening (Dec. 31) with a special post time of 6:55 p.m.
The card will feature a special pair of $10,000 guaranteed Early and Late Pick-4s. The Early Pick-4 will begin in race 3 with the Late Pick-4 in race 7. Both will offer a 20-cent minimum and 15 per cent takeout.
"We're pleased with the results of the guarantee and our fans have supported it,” said raceway manager Greg Gangle. “We know the increased guarantee on this occasion is going to attract even more interest. We’re excited for tomorrow evening.”
Here’s a look at the 10-race feature wagering format:
Daily Doubles – races 1 and 9
Pick-3s – races 1 and 8 – Early guaranteed at $2,500
Pick-4s – races 3 and 7 – Both guaranteed at $10,000
Super Hi-5s – races 6 and 10
The program will host its traditional Auld Lang Syne Trot and Auld Lang Syne Pace as it honours its aged trotters and pacers in their respective divisions.
Monster In Law, age 14, is expected to make his final appearance of his long career for trainer Don Beatson. The son of Northern Luck has amassed 54 career wins and over $500,000 in earnings. The veteran pacer is owned by Beatson along with Sandra and Ralph Pitt and Ken Beatson. Regardless of where Monster In Law finishes on New Year's Eve, the Ontario Sires Stakes graduate will make his way back to the winner's circle one final time for a special presentation.
Howdy Partner will also make his last career start for trainer Mike Rogers. The son of Hawaiian Cowboy has amassed nearly $150,000 in career earnings with a lifetime best of 1:54.4. The 39-time winner has spent the better part of four years under the care of Rogers for owner Craig Mallot.
On the trotting side, Winzel will make a special appearance at The Raceway on New Year's Eve. Although the 14-year-old won't line up behind the gate, the Brittany Kennedy trainee will lead a post parade before enjoying a special winner's circle ceremony to commemorate his career. The gelded son of Royal Strength banked more than $325,000 in career earnings along with 51 trips to the winner's circle. The bay is owned by Kennedy along with Nancy and Jack Holmes.
Participants racing tomorrow evening can also enjoy free cake in the paddock.
The Raceway will also offer on-track patrons the chance to win a pair of tickets to Miranda Lambert at Budweiser Gardens.
