Deadlines For PA Programs Draw Near

Published: December 22, 2011 11:29 am EST

Pennsylvania breeders hoping to qualify their in-foal mares for breeders awards must have their paperwork for resident mares who will foal in 2012 back to the harness racing commission with a postmark of Tuesday, January 3, 2012

(extra time courtesy of weekends and holidays).

To qualify for Pennsylvania Breeders Fund awards, the current requirements are that the mare must reside in the state for 180 contiguous days, with the foaling some time in that period, and all paperwork must be signed by the owner (not farm agent) of the mare and to the commission within the date requirements.

Also having an end postmark of 1-3-12 is the chance of supplementing previous-un-nominated yearlings for eligibility in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes programs. The costs are $750 to nominate to the p/m stakes (which includes eligibility to race in the Stallion Series), and $250 for the fair stakes (there will be a 'super-supplemental' period after December 31 until March 15, but given those prices, we strongly advise you to take care of business now if your yearling has not been nominated).

For forms for both of these processes, please email [email protected] or [email protected], or call 717-787-5539 or 717-214-9053 (if not available, leave message with type of form and preference of email, fax, or mail transmission to you and that information – but remember the deadline).
