Frederic LeBlonc, of Sutton, Ont., passed on Tuesday (Dec. 1) at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ont., following a stroke. He was 89.
LeBlonc owned horses for many years with Bill Wellwood and Bill Hicks before getting his trainer's license in the 1970s and eventually becoming a full-time trainer. Among the horses he owned and trained was OHHA stakes winner Dynamite Leray, whom he owned in partnership with Jack Wray in the 1970s. His son Dan remains active in the sport to this day as a trainer, driver and blacksmith, having returned to Ontario this summer after a brief stint in Alberta.
LeBlonc and his wife, Lorraine (née Woolhead), enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children, Judith, Barry and Dan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Due to current restrictions, a private family service will be held. Interment will take place at Zephyr Zion Cemetery in Zephyr, Ont. Arrangements are in the care of Forrest and Taylor Funeral Home in Sutton, Ont.
