Officials with the Meadowlands Racetrack have announced some changes to the track’s post time and wagering menu.
Post time for the Meadowlands will move to 6:35 p.m. starting this Friday (December 22) and continue through February 24, 2018.
"Our entry box is overflowing, and to accommodate the horsemen we are going to move post time to 6:35 p.m.," said the track’s general manager and COO, Jason Settlemoir. "We will card ten races next Thursday, December 28th, and will be carding 14 races on Friday and Saturday nights, which gives the horsemen additional opportunities to race their horses through the winter.”
There are also a few changes to the wagering format starting on Friday, December 22.
The Survivor Wager which begins in Race 1 will no longer carry a $10,000 guarantee.
“The Survivor Wager is well above the guarantee and we now believe we can do better,” Settlemoir noted. “The Survivor Wager just last week on Friday handled $18,157 and on Saturday handled $19,533. We want to give the Survivor Wager a chance as we think it is a fun bet and we believe over time it can attract more interest in our racing product.
“However, having said that, it appears that the Survivor Wager has negatively impacted some of our other pools. Therefore we are going to try, as an experiment, making some changes to our wagering format. These changes should drive some additional handle and incremental dollars to benefit the customer and horsemen.”
The Early Pick 4 will be removed from the wagering format which will allow the focus to return to the Late Pick 4 and allow the pool for this wager to increase.
The final change will move the Super High Five wager from Race 5 to the second leg of the Late Pick 4 each night.
