The first horse sale of the new year will be held January 16 at the Meadowlands, as the January Select Mixed Sale, presented by Tattersalls, gets underway there at 11 a.m. on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
The catalogue and past performances booklet for the sale are now available, and may be downloaded at www.tattersallsredmile.com, or by using the Equineline Sales Catalogue app for the iPad.
There are 239 lots in the sale, with 180 of those being racehorses and racing prospects.
“This sale takes on a bit of a different personality every year,” said manager David Reid, “and this time around it’s very, very strong in the category of four-year-old racehorses (of 2017).”
“There is a significant number of those rising four-year-olds that have earned more than $300,000, and some big names buyers will recognize include American Passport, Western Fame, Missile J, Katies Rocker, Dr J Hanover, and Lagerfeld, and that’s just mentioning a few.”
Reid said there is also the usual top selection of well-bred race fillies and mares in the “Magnificent Mares” section of the sale--with many currently racing--along with in-foal broodmares and 31 stallion shares.
