'The Raceway's Holiday Season Plans

The Raceway at Western Fair District will once again be one of the busiest tracks in North America during this upcoming holiday season, as it will feature six programs of live racing over a 12-day period.

For the third consecutive year, ‘The Raceway’ will team up with longtime industry partner Wilson Tack to present ‘Christmas in the Paddock’ on Monday, December 23, which will be The Raceway’s final program prior to the Christmas break.

All horsepeople racing this week will have a chance to fill out a ballot for one of dozens of prizes to be drawn during the Monday evening program.

Also, on Monday, December 23, The Raceway will be teaming up with the Central Ontario Standardbred Association (COSA) to offer a turkey dinner for all racing participants in the paddock for a cost of only $5 including tax.

The menu includes turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, gravy, cranberry and buns.

Boxing Day remains one of the biggest on-track days of the year at The Raceway. Patrons can enjoy several giveaways including:

• First 100 to purchase a program receive a Camluck Classic T-Shirt.
• First 300 get a Heart of Harness Racing Calendar.
• Gift Tree – Chances to win tickets to Yuk Yuks, Wine and Food Show, Beer and BBQ Show and Betting Vouchers.
• Grand prize draw – Dinner for 2 at the sold-out New Year’s Eve Top of the Fair event.

Fans can also take in the action in The Raceway’s Carousel Room, where beef on a bun will be offered along with bar service.

Customers are reminded that in addition to the Boxing Day matinee program, The Raceway will also host programs of live racing on December 27 at 6:55 p.m., December 30 at 6:15 p.m., December 31 (New Year’s Eve) at 6:55 p.m. and January 1 (New Year’s Day) at 6:15 p.m. The Raceway will begin picking up Wednesday cards of racing, beginning on New Year’s Day until the end of May.

The New Year’s Eve card at The Raceway will feature a special post time of 6:55 p.m. The card will feature its traditional Auld Lang Syne Pace and Auld Lang Syne Trot.

Monster In Law, age 14, is expected to make the final appearance of his long career for trainer Don Beatson. The son of Northern Luck has amassed 54 career wins and more than $500,000 in earnings. The veteran pacer is owned by Beatson along with Sandra and Ralph Pitt and Ken Beatson. Regardless of where Monster In Law finishes on New Year’s Eve, the OSS graduate will make his way back to the winner’s circle one final time for a special winner’s circle presentation.

On the trotting side, Winzel will make a special appearance at The Raceway on New Year’s Eve. Although the 14-year-old will not be lining up behind the gate, the Brittany Kennedy trainee will lead a post parade before enjoying a special winner’s circle ceremony to commemorate his career. The gelded son of Royal Strength banked more than $325,000 in career earnings along with 51 trips to the winner’s circle. The bay is owned by Kennedy along with Nancy and Jack Holmes.

The Raceway will also offer a grand prize to on-track patrons for a chance to win a pair of tickets to Miranda Lambert at Budweiser Gardens.
