Officials with the Standardbred Retirement Foundation have announced the winner of the organization’s annual raffle trip to the Prix d'Amerique.

The trip was won by Bud Hatfield.

Hatfield, who is a resident of Ohio, was surprised when he was notified of the win. "I wasn't expecting this," he said.

Hatfield has been involved in racing for more than 35 years and in many capacities. He says that he truly loves the sport. Most recently, Hatfield has enjoyed great success as the owner of Bar Hopping, who will be standing at stud very shortly. “I worry about the animals we love after racing,” said Hatfield. “SRF does a wonderful job."

The exciting trip will include a four-day, three-night stay and include a trip to the Grosbois Training Centre; the international cocktail party; a tour of Vincennes Racecourse; the Prix d' Amerique and more.

The organization would like to thank all that supported the fundraiser.

"It is crucial to our being able to care for the 218 trotters and pacers under our complete care. We commend those who give back and hope others will follow," said Judith Bokman, SRF's director.

The SRF has a shortfall and many mouths to feed. It is the organization’s hope that tax-deductible gifts will be received before the year closes to help the horses who give their all.
