The Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA) would like to remind Island breeders of upcoming deadlines regarding the breeding sector and form submissions.

Resident Mare Forms: Off Island residents who are boarding a mare on Prince Edward Island that foaled on P.E.I. in 2024 and remained on the Island for 183 days during the foaling year are reminded that they must submit a resident mare form by Dec. 1, 2024 to ensure the mare’s offspring are eligible to be nominated to the Joe O’Brien Stakes and/or the Lady Slipper Stakes in 2025 as yearlings. Resident mare forms are an affidavit and must be filled out and signed by the farm manager where the mare resides on the Island. The link to the form is available here: PEIHRIA Resident Mare Form.

Foal Incentive: The PEIHRIA is once again offering a foal incentive payment made possible through P.E.I. provincial government funding for foals born on P.E.I. in 2024. The complete list of eligibility criteria and the form for application is available online at the following link: PEIHRIA Foal Incentive 2024. The deadline for application is Dec. 31, 2024.

Island Broodmare Registry: The PEIHRIA has paired with the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Breeders Association to create a form for Island breeders to register broodmares at their Standardbred breeding operation annually. This will assist the PEIHRIA with obtaining accurate broodmare population numbers on P.E.I. Island breeders are asked to fill out the form at the following link and list all broodmares they have onsite that are either in foal or barren: 2024 Island Broodmare Registry.

Transfer Of Island Breeders Awards: The PEIHRIA has created a form for Island breeders that purchase a mare in foal prior to the mare foaling. The previous breeder of record may sign breeding rights over to the new owner provided the new owner purchases the mare prior to foaling, the mare is 100 per cent Island owned at the time of foaling and the mare is foaled out by the Island resident that purchased the mare. To complete a transfer, fill out the form at the following link: Transfer of Island Breeders Award.

There are still many breeders who have not received their Island Breeders Award or Maritime Breeders Stakes Award, so if you are receiving an award and are unable to do a pickup, it is encouraged that you use direct deposit. Contact Julie Jamieson at 902-569-1682 or [email protected] to receive a direct deposit form or schedule a pickup time at the PEIHRIA office. Remaining breeders awards will be sent by mail as soon as mail is back in circulation.

If you require a paper copy of any of the above forms, contact the PEIHRIA at 902-569-1682 or [email protected].
