Trot Insider has learned that former Ontario Sires Stakes standout Kinway Heather passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the age of 30.

One of the top performers in the OSS program during the 1980s, Kinway Heather (Ladatross - Kinway Cutie) won 18 of 38 starts at two and three, only missing the top three once as a two-year-old. She won 15 OSS events for trainer Louis Kindornay, setting five track records across the province. She then moved on to the aged pacing ranks, competing in the Open and Free-For-All classes before retiring at age six. She finished her career with a mark of 1:53f taken at Mohawk Raceway, 38 wins and more than $403,000 in purses.

After a number of years as a broodmare, she was purchased by Tom and Elizabeth Knight of South Woodslee, Ont. where she lived out her broodmare years.

"She was the 'Queen' here on our farm, and even though she slowed down considerably this last year she had the respect of her pasture mates," said owner Tom Knight. "No one dared to pass her on the way to the barn for supper, no matter how slowly she walked. We will all miss this great mare."

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Kinway Heather.

I used to race against her in the OSS with my mare Asriel. My condolences to her connections, she was a very nice mare.

On behalf of our family (Kindornay's) we would like to thank Tom and Elizabeth for their gracious caring and love they have given our family member Kinway Heather over her golden years. Our family is saddened with Heather's passing. Kinway Heather was every horseman's dream come true, a dream that Louis Sr and Carol were most happy to share with everyone and anyone. "Heather you made dreams come true, and new friends forever. From a princess, to Queen, and to empress. May you graze in God's pasture's from where you were truly sent from!"

I could not wait to see her race in Kingston. Still have the pictures from that night. Sad to hear the news.
