John Hutchins Passes

Former Standardbred industry participant John Stephenson 'John' Hutchins of Cookstown, Ont. passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) in Midland at the age of 73.

Athlete, hospitality entrepreneur horseman, reader, and loyal and loving family member and friend. He will truly be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and the way he always selflessly gave to others. During his time in the harness racing industry, he looked after notable performers Old Glory and Freedom Now.

John will be forever loved by his brothers, David (Chris) and Brian (Ann), his daughter Wendy (Rick), his cousins, Nancy (David), Trish (Chuck), Nora (Kevin) and Rob (Lisanne). Adored by his nieces, Jennifer (Andy) and Katherine (Mirek), nephew James, his grandchildren, his great nieces and great nephews, as well as his many friends. Special thanks to Cindy and Carlo Presviti for their friendship and loving care. John was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor Haldane (Dae) and Charles Douglas (Doug) Hutchins.

Many thanks are extended to the staff at GBGH for their kindness and support in taking such wonderful care of John in his final days.

As per John’s wishes, no services will be held and John will be interred with his parents at the Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, Ontario. Donations may be made in John’s name to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation (gbghf.ca).
