Statebred Trotters At Freehold Friday

The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey-sponsored trot for New Jersey-sired three-year-olds will continue on Friday afternoon (Nov. 8) at Freehold Raceway.

The tilt has attracting a field of six and has been carded Race 3, which carries an approximate post time of 1:10 p.m. (EST).

Two of the five fillies that contested last week’s opening leg are set to return for Leg 2.

In the opening round, Dark As A Pocket tracked the dominant Evident Beauty throughout before finishing second. Without Evident Beauty, Dark As A Pocket should have an easier time of things. She drew Post 4 and is scheduled to have Jim Marohn Jr. in the bike for trainer Linda Toscano.

Princess Deo is the other filly in the field, and she's one of two entrants from the Lucas Wallin Stable. She finished fourth last week, and will seek a rebound from Post 2. As a two-year-old, she won the Garden State Trot at the Meadowlands Racetrack, and was second in the Goldsmith Maid, but has not been able to find that form as a three-year-old.

Four colts and geldings have been entered, including Wallin's other entrant, Sovereign Deo. Alternative Fact is the only one in the field that did not race in the first leg (he most recently finished in the Garden State Trot two weeks ago). Prior to that, he reeled off five consecutive wins. Ray Schnittker trains and will drive from Post 1.

Luicus Vorenus won the Garden State two starts back, and was a close second in the first leg last time out. The Nick Surick trainee will start from Post 6 with Jason Bartlett in the sulky.

Warrior One, who finished third in last week’s opening leg, completes the field.

The final will be held next Friday (Nov. 15) and will feature a purse of $50,000.

The first of ten races at Freehold on Friday is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
