Trot Insider has learned that long-time Standardbred owner and breeder Jim Parish of Chesley, Ont. passed away on Tuesday (Nov. 30) at the age of 87.

Jim had many loves, including his wife of 63 years Paulina Parish, his 5 children, Janalie Knapp (Reg), Jim Parish Jr. (Sylvia), Randy Parish (Julia), Mark Parish (Joanne), Brent Parish (Aneetta); his 11 grandchildren and his 16 great grandchildren. He spent his years working at what he loved. He owned a dairy farm near Aylmer, Ont. and then travelled across Canada as a singer and entertainer with his family band. His lifetime love of horses led him to Standardbred racing and breeding, joined by his sons Randy and Brent.

Parish raced mostly at Southern Ontario tracks with horses such as Moffat Missy, As We Speak, CS Brisco Babe, All American Match, and Rubber Belly.

Funeral arrangements will follow. Donations are being accepted in his name to the Hanover and District Hospital.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Jim Parish.
