Francene Nash Passes

Standardbred racehorse breeder Francene Marie Nash passed away on Sunday, November 25 at the age of 72.

Born on March 12, 1946, Nash was the daughter of the late Frank and Nell Nash.

Nash’s early life was spent in New Jersey and Jeffersonville, Ind. Later, the family lived in Lake Charles, La. and Leominster, Mass., where she graduated from high school. She attended Boston University and the University of Kentucky where she worked first in the Dept. of Agriculture and then in the Appalachian Center until her retirement.

Her 25-year involvement, along with her brother’s family, in Standardbred racing and breeding produced several noteworthy horses, including the 2010 Horse of the Year Rock N Roll Heaven.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Cotton (Julie); nephews, Patrick (Christy) and Richey; niece, Audrey (Jason) Lowrey; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will take place on Thursday (Nov. 29) at 12 noon at Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd., Lexington, Ky., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Burial following at the Calvary Cemetery.
