Filly Forty Seven will take on the top girls in the featured event during Horse Person’s Day, presented by the P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owner’s Association, at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday (Nov. 20).
The Horse Person’s Day program kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with the featured Fillies and Mares Preferred pace in Race 12, sponsored by Woodmere Farms. The program also features the Paul MacDonald Memorial Driving Championship with eight drivers competing for the annual trophy.
The competition takes place in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 and 10 with the top point earner on the day being crowned champion with the field including drivers Marc Campbell, Jason Hughes, David Dowling, Adam Merner, Corey MacPherson, Steven Shepherd, Ambyr Campbell and Donnie MacNeill.
Filly Forty Seven will look to be the boss in the afternoon finale leaving from Post 5 in the $3,100 event. Hughes gets the catch driving call for trainer Marc Campbell and owners Alan MacDonald, Cory Carver and Katelyn Smallwood. The former Atlantic Triple Crown-winning daughter of Proven Lover was a winner her last start in 1:55.3 in this class then was scratched from competition last week.
Campbell will drive stablemate Arc Light from Post 4 in the class after the daughter of Camystic has been absent from competition since Oct. 28. Better Be In Love scored an upset in this field last week and has Post 3 with Dale Spence picking up the catch drive for trainer Brendon Mullen.
Peter MacPhee likes Filly Forty Seven to visit the winner’s circle in the afternoon finale.
“Filly Forty Seven was scratched sick last time but prior to that was a wire-to-wire winner in 1:55.3. We’re wagering ‘the Blue Knight’ will have her on or near the lead from the word go and if that’s the case they’ll be tough to reel in.”
Also in that featured field are Do U Mind (Mark Bradley), Ms Moyse (Merner), The Time To Win (Ken Murphy) and Ladylike (Dowling).
