After 270 starts, there aren't too many firsts left for harness racing's richest horse. But Foiled Again's start on Monday (Nov. 14) will mark the 24th different track he's raced at in his long and illustrious career.
Weaver Bruscemi, JJK and Burke Racing Stable’s Foiled Again makes his Dover Downs debut Monday. A five-time winner this season with earnings on the cusp of $7.5-million, the 12-year-old war horse will have Tony Morgan in the bike -- the horse-driver combination marking another first.
Listed as the 4-1 third choice, Foiled Again takes on the fast Mel Mara, winner of Dover's season-opening day feature in 1:49.1. Corey Callahan drives Mel Mara (3-2) for the Robert Cooper Stables and J And T Silva Stables.
Tim Tetrick will be in the bike behind second choice Dancin Yankee (7-2) for trainer Josh Green. Local favourite Just A Jolt (7-1), racing for Janet Hudson and JoAnn Looney King is teamed with driver Vic Kirby.
Cajon Lightning, an opening day 1:51 winner with Art Stafford Jr. drew the rail for trainer Eric Ell and owners Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta and Minisink Farms. Newcomer American Rage, owned by Mildred Ventriglio and a winner of more than a quarter-million dollars, is alongside. Howard Taylor’s hard-hitting Handsome Henry K (12-1, Andrew McCarthy), has raced well at Dover in the past. J.L. Sadowsky’s Te Kawau N, a recent New Zealand import, with Pat Berry completes the strong field.
Post time for the 15-race program is 4:30 p.m. In addition, two $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund second leg prelims are on the pre-race non wagering card. After impressive wins last week, Moonshine Lavec and Master Clave lead separate $20,000 DSBF divisions in the final preliminary for two-year-old trots.
