The P.E.I Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA) and the PEIHRIA Breeders Committee have announced details of a Broodmare Purchase Assistance Program available for 2021.
This breed development fund has the goal of assisting P.E.I. residents with the purchase of 10 eligible broodmares.
The PEIHRIA will offer a rebate of 50 per cent up to a maximum of $4,000 for in-foal mares and 50 per cent up to a maximum of $2,000 for not in-foal mares. Applicants are eligible for one broodmare purchase assistance rebate per fiscal year.
Mares must reside on P.E.I. for 24 months after purchase, foal on P.E.I., and the first two breedings after purchase must be to a P.E.I. stallion.
Applicants will be entered into a draw on November 8, 2021 for the 10 available slots. The goal will be to assist five trotting mare purchases and five pacing mare purchases for the first year of the program.
