Mares Mingle At Red Shores

The top pacing mares in Eastern Canada will again square off this Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 12-dash Saturday card kicks off at 12:30 P.M.

Pacing mares headline the card with a $2,550 contest in the eleventh race. The Time To Win comes into the race sporting a win and second in her last two starts, with Corey MacPherson subbing in as the driver for trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Woodmere Farms of Marshfield. The five-year-old daughter of Western Ideal is a three-time winner this season racing primarily at Rideau Carleton Raceway. She won her Open Mares assignment on Oct. 19, and then was second to pacing horse Eagle Jolt in a mixed class in her last start.

Maritime Champion Arc Light moves into aged competition in this race but the three-year-old filly has rail control for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore, N.S. Dancers Pass (David Dowling) was a winner in her last two starts but takes on her toughest test to date in this race leaving from post three.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac sides with The Time To Win for the top spot.

“The Time To Win was a bang-up second last week despite being first up before the half so if she's able to pick up some cover [Saturday] instead of providing it she'll be hard to deny,” MacIsaac said.

Completing the field are Mrs Dragonfire (Adam Merner), Imagine Speed (Dale Spence), West River Ambyr (Steven Shepherd), Collective Wisdom (Ron Matheson) and Jordies Hope (Jason Hughes).

Freddie and Star Photo are set to tangle in the $2,300 Open Trot, carded as the eighth race. Star Photo cruised to victory in his latest with a :28.4 final panel for the team of driver Hughes and trainer Kevin Gillis. The veteran has post three to start from this week while Freddie (Campbell) leaves from post two. Labero has quietly put together a solid season with five wins, five seconds and three thirds. The five-year-old has rail control in the class with Walter Cheverie in the seat.
