OSAS Celebrations In London

Opening week at The Raceway at Western Fair District will include the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society’s (OSAS) 25th Anniversary Trot on Friday night (Oct. 8) in the seventh race, a $10,000 Preferred 3 contest.

The richest performer in the race with more than $400,000 banked to date in his career is the eight-year-old gelding Willyorwonthe. He will leave from post four with regular pilot Colin Kelly in the bike. Kyle Bossence trains the son of Angus Hall for owner Phil Maguire of Arthur, Ont.

Willyorwonthe was bred by veteran horseman Bill Megens, who was in the headlines last month for becoming the oldest driver in the history of Flamboro Downs to win a race. At age 87, Megens drove Opas Faith to victory. It was his first win since driving Willyorwonthe to a victory two years prior at Georgian Downs. Willyorwonthe is the final foal from Megens’ good trotter Mikestory, who won close to a quarter-million in her career. She is the grand dam of Opas Faith.

Willyorwonthe is the 5-2 second choice on the morning line with Sicario selected as the 2-1 favourite from the inside post for driver Brett MacDonald and trainer Richard Moreau.

Post time at Western Fair is 4:50 p.m., with the OSAS race scheduled to go to post at approximately 7:08 p.m.

Friday's card also features a $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace in Race 3 with Mywishlistforyou as the 7-5 morning line favourite and another $10,000 Preferred 3 Trot in Race 10 headlined by 6-5 choice Veyron.

Programs are available on the Western Fair District website.
