Alberta’s horse racing industry recently assembled a video public service announcement which highlights some of the positive economic impacts that the industry has on the province.
The PSA states that horse racing has been benefitting Albertans for over 100 years.
It also highlights that the Alberta horse racing industry is a key contributor to the provincial economy, via its $399-million annual economic impact.
The PSA specifically states that the bulk of that annual economic impact is felt in the province’s rural areas, which are annually impacted to the tune of $254 million.
The item also states that, since 2002, the industry has added $265 million to the Alberta Lottery Fund.
All off track betting revenue
All off track betting revenue that is allocated for horse racing is forwarded to the thoroughbred people (Marquis Downs-Saskatoon Prairieland Exhibition) 3 year deal signed, I believe about 2 1/2 years ago. Would love to see some standardbred people get together and try to get a contract signed that would involve harness racing too.
