Dolores Lyons Batson of Greenwood, Delaware passed away September 24, 2011 with her family by her side. Since her youth she was an avid harness horse enthusiast and owner of horses

Her father, the late Luther Lyons, owned and drove the legendary World Champion pacer Adios Harry, who set a host of world and track records. She, herself, when just a teen, drove horses in matinee races, competing successfully in a male-dominated sport. Dolores pursued a career in training and racing horses. She was particularly talented training and working with young horses. In recent years, Dolores and her husband ran a retail saddle and harness shop.
Dolores is survived by Pleasant Batson, Jr., her husband of 53 years; a daughter, Rebecca Batson Kidner; son-in-law, C. Scott Kidner; and grandchildren Jack, Jeffrey, and Grant Kidner of Dover. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Monty G. Lyons, and Elizabeth A. Lyons of Harwinton, Conn.; a number of nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She graduated from Greenwood High School and attended the University of Delaware. An accomplished seamstress, she also mastered the lost art of caning and enjoyed restoring antique chairs.
She was an active member of Independent Bible Fellowship Church in Harrington, and the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association prior to her illness.
A viewing was held at Valley Chapel – Andrews Mortuary, Wilmington, North Carolina, on September 30, 2011, with a graveside service immediately following at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, N.C.
