Alan W. Fair Passes

Trot Insider has learned that longtime harness racing industry participant Alan W. Fair of Ancaster, Ont. passed away on October 23 at the age of 83.

Alan supported and mentored family and friends to fully realize their true abilities. He was a successful, self-made business owner with a strong work ethic, a passion for music, a love for horses and great faith in the Lord which grew throughout his life. Alan was an elder in the Church and was devoted to spreading God's word.

Active as an owner for three decades and as a trainer since 1996, Fair became more involved with Standardbreds after retiring from the construction and excavation business. Notable horses campaigned by Fair and his wife Cloah over the years include Memories Of Texas, Mr Bitter and T T Texas. Fair was also involved with campaigners the likes of Catch The Tide, Givenupdreaming, Personal Cam, S A Cheerleader, Shawland Ultra and Storm Master.

Recently, Fair captured an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Final with trotting filly Stormont Charlotte.

Loved and loving husband of Cloah (nee Yager) for 59 years. Dear father to Wendy (Dale Jackson), and Wayne (Terry) (mother Barbara); Laurie Comley, Alan 'Jay' (Elizabeth), Neil (Trudi), Cheryl 'Cheri' (Doug Collins), Marcia (Marc DeSantis) and daughter in his heart, Lynn Hampshire. Dearest grandfather to Robbie Jackson (deceased), Carrie Jackson, Crystal Hill, Chad (Tina); Tyler Comley, Louise (Jeromy Young), Alan (Nicole), Nicholas (Alicia), Jesse (Elizabeth), Shane (Melissa), Adam Collins, Joshua (Jaime) Collins, Derek (Laura) Collins, Julia, Ryan and Ethan Matthews. Proud and treasured Papa to 17 great-grandchildren. Beloved son of the late Harley and Ivalo Fair, Alan is survived by eight of his siblings and pre-deceased by five.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home in the "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton (905.574.0405). The funeral service will take place in Bay Gardens' chapel on Monday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception for family and friends. Internment will take place following the reception at the Carluke Cemeteries of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Carluke Road, Ancaster.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hamilton Salvation Army or Mission Services would be greatly appreciated by the family.
