Trot Insider has learned that two-time O’Brien Award-winning mare Warzover (4,1:56.1s - $368,777) has passed away at the age of 26.

News of the Balanced Image mare’s passing comes courtesy of her breeder/owner/trainer Ted MacDonnell, who stated that the career winner of 23 races passed away earlier this week at his Allenford, Ont. farm.

“She was very special to my family,” MacDonnell told Trot Insider. “She passed away here at home due to old age.”

Warzover, a bay that was out of the Dream Of Glory mare D L Zoe, was surely battled tested through her 94-race career. She regularly slugged it out with some of her top male counterparts while racing in the Junior Free For All ranks on the Ontario Jockey Club circuit.

Warzover also traded blows with some of the best trotting mares the sport has ever seen while racing in legs of The Classic Series in the late 1990s. She won a Classic Series leg at the Meadowlands Racetrack in 1997, and later followed that victory up with a pair of on-the-board finishes against Moni Maker, arguably the best trotting mare the world has ever seen.

From her 94 career starts, Warzover compiled a record of 23 wins, 16 second-place finishes and 13 thirds. She banked a total of $368,777 in purses and took her record of 1:56.1 over Woodbine Racetrack at the age of four.

MacDonnell bred Warzover along with fellow Allenford residents Perry Siegrist and Robert MacDonnell.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Warzover.
