It’s going to be the veterans versus the young guns when Kawartha Downs hosts its 2015 Drivers’ Challenge this Saturday night (October 24), which is also Kawartha’s final card of live racing for the year.
Eight of the Fraserville track’s top drivers will face off in five of the 11 races on the program, races four through eight. Points will be awarded for finishes one through five and the top point earner at the conclusion of the competition will be crowned the champion.
Veteran drivers Gord Brown, Reg Gassien, Tony Kerwood and Doug Hie will take on the up-and-coming young talent Nick Boyd, Clarke Steacy, Justin Turcotte and Dagfin Henriksen.
“We haven’t had a drivers’ competition at this track for a number of years,” noted Brown, who has been Kawartha’s top driver for many years.
“I think it’s a fun way to end the meet and get the fans involved as well as they can cheer for drivers they’ve seen at Kawartha all season.”
It’s also appreciation night at Kawartha on Saturday. Fans will receive free programs and the chance to ride behind a magnificent Standardbred horse through the Hands On Horses program. Kids dressed in Halloween costumes will receive free loot bags and balloon animals.
In addition on Saturday, Kawartha fans can watch and wager on the entire Breeders Crown final program from Woodbine Racetrack. Kawartha’s first-race post time is 7 p.m. on Saturday, and a program is available here.
