Harrisburg Sale Details Released

The Standardbred Horse Sales Company has released all of the details surrounding its annual sale, which will take place from Monday, November 4 through Saturday, November 9 at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

PA Farm Show will Host Harness Horse Racing's Annual Auction

The 2013 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale will offer 2,036 harness racing horses for public auction at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg from Monday, November 4 through Saturday, November 9, 2013. The Select Yearling Sale will be held Monday through Thursday, followed by the Mixed Sale on Friday and Saturday. Pedigrees and yearling videos are available online at www.theblackbook.com. The roster may be searched by trotters and pacers, colts and fillies, as well as by consignors, sires, and state of eligibility.

At the 2012 Annual Sale, 1,162 Select yearlings were sold for $33,568,500, for an average of $28,889; 909 Mixed horses were sold for $15,865,400, an average of 17,454. Pennsylvania sires led the way with 493 Select yearlings selling for $16,251,000, an average of $32,963. Overall, 2071 horses sold for $49,433,900, an average of $23,870.

Sensationally dominant Pennsylvania-based Hanover Shoe Farms pacing sire Somebeachsomewhere is represented by 39 blue blooded yearlings. Other prominent pacing sires include Bettors Delight (NY; 61 yearlings), PA sire Well Said (57), Rocknroll Hanover (NJ; 44), PA sire Dragon Again (42), Art Major (NY; 42), and first crop sires Rock N Roll Heaven (NY; 37) and Sportswriter (ON; 37); American Ideal (NY; 27), and Western Ideal (NJ; 24).

Leading two-year-old and all-age Pennsylvania trotting sire Cantab Hall has 26 yearlings at Harrisburg. 30 yearlings by World Champion first-crop sire Muscle Hill are eagerly anticipated by international buyers; his yearlings averaged $102,429 at the recent Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. Other outstanding trotting sires include PA sire Explosive Matter (45 yearlings), first crop PA sire Muscle Massive (41), PA sire Donato Hanover (38), PA sire Andover Hall (36), first-crop sire Lucky Chucky (NY; 32), Crazed (NY; 29), Credit Winner (NY; 25), Muscle Hill (NJ; 23), Kadabra (ON; 22), Muscles Yankee (NJ; 22), and Deweycheatumnhowe (ON; 21).

Standardbred Horse Sale Company President Dr. Paul Spears said, "With an improving economy, a 10% increase in sale average at the recent 2013 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, and clarification of the changes to the Ontario racing program, we are hoping that our breeders and consignors can enjoy a successful 2013 sale."

International horse owners, trainers, and enthusiasts attend this sale on a yearly basis. Buyers from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, and Italy can always be found in the sale arena. In recent years, new customers from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Brazil, and the Central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Tatarstan and Altai have purchased horses at Harrisburg. 150 or more horses will be sold to international buyers, who will ship most of their purchases home at an average cost of over $10,000.
