Services have recently taken place for longtime harness racing industry participant James Albert “Bubba” Huggins, Jr., who passed away Friday, October 14, 2022 at the age of 87.
Born in Timmonsville, S.C. Mr. Huggins was the son of the late James Albert Huggins, Sr. and Evelyn Phillips Huggins. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BS degree in Business, and he served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Timmonsville Southern Methodist Church. Known affectionately as “Bubba” by many of his friends and family he spent most of his professional career owning, driving, and training Standardbred race horses. His racing career took him to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States with many winters spent in the Timmonsville area doing preparatory training.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Sinclair Huggins; three nieces, Evelyn Beckroge (David), Robin McRoy (Calvin), and Laura Reasonover; his wife’s children, Devin Scott, and Neill Scott (Jennifer). He is also survived by a special lifelong friend Carroll Young (Karen).
His sister Frances Huggins McLaughlin with whom he shared a mutual devotion preceded him in death on August 26 of this year.
