In advance of Monday's national election, Trot Insider reached out to the major Canadian political parties for a statement on the country's horse racing industry.

Trot Insider solicited comment from the Conservative Party, the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party of Canada. The NDP provided a response to the two questions.

Any additional party platforms on horse racing will be added to this note.

This is not an endorsement by Standardbred Canada or its employees of any political party.

New Democratic Party of Canada

1. Please provide your or your party's stance on the value of Canada's horse racing industry on a local, national and global scale.

NDP Response: In this election campaign, we made a key announcement to support Canada’s tourism industry that relates to your industry. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair announced that an NDP government will invest an additional $30 million over 3 years to promote tourism.

We will promote Canada’s brand as a world-class tourism destination and help our regions and businesses compete with global competitors. These funds will support the Connecting America campaign, co-led by Destination Canada and the tourism industry, to recapture the US tourist market.

2. If your party is in power, what are your specific commitments to Canada's horse racing and breeding industries?

NDP Response: The NDP has not made any specific commitments to the horse racing and breeding industries but would be pleased to hear from Standardbred Canada on any specific issues members would want to raise on behalf of these industries.
