Congratulations to the winners of the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club’s Pick 8 Online Handicapping Contest and the Ontario Sires Stakes Pick 8 On-Track Contest at Mohawk Racetrack.
Randy Riff of Palmerston, Ontario, won the Online contest and Gary Campbell of Mississauga, Ontario was the best of the on-track entrants.
Players were tasked with selecting the winners in each of eight Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final Championships and they would receive a mythical $2 Win and $2 Place wager on their selections.
Randy finished with a bankroll of $126.30 to top the charts from the online handicappers. The bulk of that bankroll was thanks to two-year-old pacing filly Code One Hanover who accounted for $76.80.
Randy is a longtime racing fan who enjoys playing the online Handicapping contests when he can’t get out to the track.
Second place went to Jim Morgan of Oshawa, Ontario, with a bankroll of $120.70 and Mark Fonti of London, Ontario, took the show position with $102.70.
In the on-track Pick 8 Handicapping Contest at Mohawk, Gary Campbell topped the charts, finishing with $138.20 in his bankroll, while Ken Craig of Caledon was the runner up with $125 and Gord McNally of Whitby took the show spot with $116.10.
Gary and his wife were at Mohawk on Saturday night for "Date Night". They enjoyed an “awesome” meal in the dining room at his favourite track where he loved the atmosphere and the opportunity to get up close to the horses on the tarmac. Gary explained that he just selected random numbers and said that if he had studied the program he wouldn’t have won the contest.
All six contest winners selected longshot Code One Hanover in the OSS Super Final Championship for two-year-old pacing fillies, which accounted for $76.80 of each player’s bankroll.
The winners of the Handicapping contest each will receive $300; $150 will go to each runner up and the third place finishers will receive a cheque for $50. All six winners will also receive a prize package filled with I Love Canadian Harness Racing swag and Ontario Sires Stakes 40th anniversary swag. Thanks to all of the handicappers who took part in the 40th Anniversary Handicapping contests – both online and at Mohawk! A total of $2,000 was paid out in prize money for the four contests!
