Live harness racing will return to Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway on Wednesday (October 12) under the lights.

The card will kick off with a first-race post time of 7 p.m.

Motorino (3-1) and Machinthesand (5-2) will go head to head during the evening’s top class, which has been carded as Race 11. The race is expected to head to post at roughly 9:51 p.m.

Motorino, who is coming off a 1:56.2 score at the Charlottetown Driving Park, will start from Post 3 in the power-packed field for trainer-driver Terry Gallant and his co-owner Eric Johnston, Summerside, PE. The black gelding has seven wins from 22 starts this season, along with six seconds and three show prizes. Machinthesand will also come off the bench with seven wins this season for Noonan Holdings Ltd – Russell and Karen Noonan, Middelton, PE. Ken Murphy will do the driving from Post 3 for trainer Hughie Murphy.

The field also includes Allstar Seelster off the rail for Norris Rogers, J RS Hurricane (Dale Spence) and DBS Rosco (Kenny Arsenault).

One of eastern Canada’ harness racing veterans, Life Savior, will officially retire in Race 10, which has been named in his honour. The 11-year-old has earned $104,088 in his career which includes an incredible 60 wins. Owner Darla MacEachern and trainer Duane MacEachern will send him out to lead the post parade followed by a trackside presentation to mark a remarkable racing journey. OH To Be Me has been established as the morning line favourite for driver Gary Chappell with Sporty B Skipalong (Norris Rogers) and Im Driven (Murphy) listed as triactor candidates.

In other action, Onehotvett is only two victories away from 40 lifetime wins; Capitalism is two shy of 30 trips to victory lane, and Toad River is three away from reaching that milestone. All three horses will compete in Race 12.

Customers can purchase two pick 5 ballots on the 12 dash card. The first ballot is ear marked for Race 1 through Race 5, while the traditional Pick 5 remains on Races 6-10. The Wild Horses tags will also feature jackpots of $50 per race, with the final race of the night showcasing a $100 jackpot. The Wild Horses tag is a $2 triactor instant pick. If the Wild Horses tag matches the winning triactor, the winner gets the pay-out and the jackpot assigned to that race.
