Rookie Vs. Champ Battle This Sunday

Published: January 5, 2011 10:33 pm EST

The Rideau Carleton race office would like to inform all people entering horses for Sunday, January 9 that the annual "Rookie versus the Champ" competition will be taking place

.

Each summer the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association puts on the Coville Cup, which is a driving competition involving younger drivers just starting off their career. This year's winner was Travis Henry. Then in January the Coville Cup winner, (Henry) faces off, head-to-head with Darrell Coville, which the Coville Cup is named after. Darrell is the all-time leading dash winner in Rideau history.

All horsepeople should be aware that in each race, Darrell and Henry maybe be replaced with the driver that was listed on their entry. The NCRHHA and the Rideau race office challenge all horsepeople to co-operate with this unique and exciting marketing opportunity, and should look back no further to last year's competition when Max Audet held a huge lead over Coville only to see Coville storm back to capture the event on the last race of the evening.

Post-time Sunday is set for 6:30 p.m.
