Trot Insider has learned that Joyce Henry, of Arthur, Ont., passed on Sunday morning (Jan. 31) of natural causes at the age of 85.
The matriarch of one of Ontario's most prominent harness racing families, Joyce enjoyed 67 years of marriage to lifelong horseman Ross Henry, who recorded 533 wins as a trainer and established himself as one of the leading conditioners on the Ontario Sires Stakes circuit in a career that spanned five decades. The Henrys raised five sons, including three-time National Driving Championship participant Trevor Henry and trainer Wayne Henry.
Henry was predeceased by her husband, Ross. Dear mother of George and Sharon Henry of Arthur, Sharon Silver of Stratford, Brian and Helen Henry of Arthur, Wayne and Shelley Henry of Arthur, the late Paul Henry (2014) and his wife Linda Henry of Brantford and Trevor and Shannon Henry of Arthur. Grandmother of Nick Henry, Crystal and Adam Bolen; Dierre and Ron Acheson; Brittany and Shane Tonkin, the late Ashley Henry, Jacob Henry and Christine, Jennifer and Jeff Martin; Nicole Henry; Travis and Maddi Henry, Cody Henry; Ty Henry and Tessa Henry. Fondly remembered by her 13 great grandchildren.
Due to current public health restrictions in Ontario, a private service for family will be held. She will be interred next to her husband in the spring at Greenfield Cemetery in Arthur, Ont.
